From now onwards one should terminate or lower the consumption of hard drinks if they are above 65 years of age. Studies have proved that these hard drinks can pose serious health hazards for these people. It has been quite an old fashion for the aged people to consume alcoholic drinks mainly during the evenings and nights everyday.
But now after studies have been made, doctors are strictly instructing the 65 plus men and women to reduce this habit. The study came out in print in the journal of the American Geriatrics Society.

Elizabeth Merrick who is one of the researchers of the study inferred that if the 65 plus people continue to drink in this way then there may be no such treatment solutions in the medical world to cure them. This is because they will face such serious health hazards which are beyond the scope for any possible treatment. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) has set some limits for the average consumption of alcoholic drinks. One should not drink more than seven drinks per week as per these confines. But the 65 plus people often exceed this limit. There are also limits set individually for beer, wine, vodka, whisky and others. So, an aged person needs to lower his/her average drinking consumption. However people below 65 are allowed to consume such hard drinks two times everyday.
On the contrary some old patients of the ages between 70 and 80 have reported that their doctors said that they may have one glass of margarita or red wine during meal or at night. Merrick has agreed to such remarks but as per her one should control their habit of drinking heavily every night. This is because the metabolism activities of the digestive system vary from person to person. In the later stages the alcohol may not be metabolized which may lead to undesired effects. NIAAA has also conducted a study by which they found that heavy drinkers of ages 65 above are more prone to strokes and heart attacks. Warning notices have thus been issued by NIAAA.
