Gonorrhea: Sexually Transmitted Disease in Reproductive Tracts

Gonorrhea is among the most commonly sexually transmitted diseases, which is infectious in nature. It is caused due to bacterial presence, which grows in moist areas like reproductive tracts including cervix, fallopian tube and uterus in women and urethra in men as well as women.

Gonorrhea is a disease that can cause serious damage, which can even lead to infertility. The symptoms do not occur in many cases. For women, they may cause irritation and infection in cervix. Those affected by this disease need to urinate frequently, vaginal infection occurs, which gives burning and itching sensation and thick yellow or green discharge also occurs. Incase of men affected by Gonorrhea, they suffer from pain during urination, yellow penile discharge also occurs. Infection of prostate also takes place.

Gonorrhea is a disease that should be treated, as soon as possible to avoid complications. Previously antibiotics, known as fluoroquinolones, were used for increased amount of resistance. Now, antibiotics of cephalosporins are used and prescribed for treatments. The doctor may prescribe single dosage injection, such as ceftriaxone or pills like ciprofloxacin. In case of pregnancy or those younger than 18 are generally prescribed to take injection.

As the disease is easily transmitted and if left untreated for long, it can cause serious damage to health, which is permanent in nature. A person suffering from this disease should avoid sexual activities, until complete treatment takes place.
