Gum Disease: Know more about gum disease

Excessive accumulation of plaque is the primary cause of gum disease on your teeth. Plaque, when constantly accumulates on the teeth, hardens into a substance called tartar. The tartar forms a layer over the teeth, which gradually begins affecting the gums and eventually destroys them.

Associated symptoms

The most common of the various symptoms associated with gum disease is the swelling of gums. You can notice it through the bleeding that takes place from the gums. There can also be pain on the region, if the disease persists. If the situation worsens further, there can even be loss of teeth.

It is easier to tackle gum disease by following a good oral hygiene. One needs to properly brush twice daily. It is also necessary to rinse the mouth thoroughly after having a meal. Food accumulated in between the teeth can always pose a serious threat. Use of a good antibacterial mouthwash is also advisable. It is always better to prevent a disease and then look for its cure, as we all know that prevention is better than cure. Regular sittings with the dentist would prevent gum disease from occurring.
