AUGUST 12. WASHINGTON - The dreadful challenge, which most Olympians are facing, is the heat and humidity in Beijing. Again, researchers have commented that poor quality of the air will severely affect the performance and health of the athletes. Olympians, who suffer from asthma, may have a tough time during the Beijing Olympics 2008.
Louis-Philippe Boulet aand Donald McKenzie are worried, as they fret the poor air quality and various pollutants may prompt asthma in various players.
As the athletes breathe in large amount of air or in other words their high minute ventilation, the exposure for them to pollutants is manifold times in comparison to non-athletes. Athletes, who are already affected by asthma, are sure to face some troubles.
It is believed that routine exercises contribute in improving the asthma problem. However for athletes having tough regime, exercises may be one of the prime factor for the development of this problem. Hyper-responsiveness of the lungs due to intense work-out sessions lead to asthma.
China, even though they are late, is making efforts to improve the quality of the air for providing ease to the athletes. They are making sure that the stay of these athletes in the country is safe and healthy.
