Health News: Broccoli is a must in the diet plan of diabetics

AUGUST 10. LONDON - In a study carried out by the researchers of Warwick University, it has been concluded that broccoli can help in reversing the damage caused due to diabetes in the blood vessels of the heart.

Sulforaphane, a compound found in the Broccoli, is responsible for the therapeutic effect. This compound promotes enzyme production, which helps in protecting the blood vessels and the reduction of the high level molecules. Otherwise, it will result in considerable cell damage leading to cardiovascular diseases.

Broccoli, like other Brassica vegetables, is well known to minimize the chances of cardiovascular diseases. Individuals, who suffer from diabetes, have chances of being susceptible to heart ailments increase by almost 5 times to normal ones, as blood vessels are damaged making them fall easy prey to heart problems.

Researchers tried the effects of the sulforaphane on blood vessels, which have been damaged by excessive glucose levels. Again, the compound aids in the activation of a protein called nrf2 in the body, which guards the tissues and cells from any damage by the production of detoxifying enzymes and antioxidants.
