AUGUST 18. NEW DELHI - A cow with altered genes has been produced, which the researchers of China claim to be a rich source of cancer-fighting proteins. The cow is known to produce the CD20 antibodies in its milk.
This cow with special genes was born on August 2 and many more are expected to be born in the coming month.
As reported by Xinhua, the mass breeding of the cow would make China to split out the curative proteins economically and will make it available to all the countries.
A leading academician from China Academy of Engineering, Li Ning reported that the antibodies produced from the single cell or the human monoclonal can be purified easily from the transgenic cow’s milk. This can then be used to treat the B cell leukemias, lymphomas and even some other auto-immune diseases.
LI Ning is quite happy that the cow is healthy and safe even after the 10 days survival. The weight of the calf at the time of the birth was 38 kgs.
The researchers claim to induce the lactation process within the time span of the seven to eight months, so as to test the expression of the antibodies.
