Cystitis is a painful condition which is usually brought on by infection. The symptoms are a frequent desire to pass urine accompanied by severe burning and pain and sometimes passing blood in the urine.

The person generally fells very ill with pain in the lower abdomen, back ache and fever and sometimes ague. Women who are in the sexually active age group are more prone to this infection and often keep getting repeated attacks of cystitis. This happens during pregnancy and even after menopause to some women.

The best way to prevent these attacks is to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and maintain good hygiene. Ensure washing yourself before and after intercourse and avoid use of perfumed deodorants or perfumed bath oils which will cause irritation to the vagina.

Wear cotton undergarments which are not too fitting, and avoid synthetic ones which can cause irritation and allergy which would aggravate cystitis.

If there is blood in the urine it is best to consult a doctor. Over the counter pain killers and paracetomols will help the discomfort, but for the infection antibiotics will have to be prescribed by the doctor.

Along side this it is best to follow the advice of drinking plenty of fluids and maintaining good personal hygiene too.
