Health News: Diabetes claims 1 out of 10 lives in England

AUGUST 19. LONDON - A recent study shows that of the vast population of England, out of ten people who die, one is due to diabetes.

Though in most cases, the cause is indirect as in by strokes, kidney failure or the heart attacks. This is because diabetes affects the cardiovascular functioning of the human body tremendously. Such reasons are not recorded. Thus, the count of the deaths by diabetes is by far much more than recorded by the team.

In a study undertaken by Charity Diabetes UK, it has been proved that around 11.6% people ranging in the age group of 20-79 yrs die of diabetes. The results have been complied very carefully keeping the research evidences, mortality data and the estimates of the prevalence of the diabetes in the population.

The report states that individual, who are more than 80 years and suffer from diabetes, are twice more likely to die as compared to the people, who do not suffer from diabetes. The officials are afraid that if the situation remains unaltered, the figure can raise up to one in eight lives by the year end of 2010.

What worsens the situation is that of 2.3 million people affected by this disease, most of them were unaware that they suffer from it, as quoted by the chief executive of Diabetes UK, Douglas Smallwood.
