Health News: Febrile Seizures is no longer an issue of concern for parents

AUGUST 16. DENMARK – In its August edition, Lancet published a new research conducted on febrile seizures.

Over there, it is mentioned that seizures during childhood, due to fever or febrile seizures are not responsible for increasing long-standing mortality.

In the last two years, several cases of complicated febrile seizures have been reported and it predicted a figure that seemed to be doubling the rate of mortality. But, the good news is that the risk of death due to febrile seizures is quite low.

Dr Mogens Vestergaard, who belongs to the Department of General Practice, Institute of Public Health, Arahus University, Denmark, and his colleagues have made it official that even in case of children with high-risk, death is unlikely. This is an assurance for the parents on their behalf.

Febrile seizure is a medical term, it is commonly known as fever fit and is caused by generalized tremor caused due to escalating body temperature. Children within the age group of 2 to 5 year are the major victims of this disorder, with 33 % of them experiencing febrile disorder for more than once.

Research has proved that the febrile seizure does not necessarily mean death. Statistics from Vestergaard is evidence that proves the fact.
