Health News:Future doctors oversharing on Facebook

Future doctors are seen to be oversharing on Facebook, a popular social networking Web site. More than half of the pages of medical students provided lifestyle information, including dating relationships and sexual orientation, a research by the University of Florida says.

The research has found that many medical students had joined Facebook groups that could be rated racist sexist or downright nasty. They have also found the med students using vulgar language in their pages.

There were also pictures of students drinking heavily, grabbing their breasts and posing with a dead raccoon. It is seen that more than half of the med students had a Facebook account and only 37 per cent of them had limited their viewership.

Some of the popular groups are “Physicians looking for trophy wives in training” and “PIMP” (Party of Important Male Physicians).” However, most of the Med students will not wish the pages to be seen by their patients as it could affect their profession.

The research also quotes some students as saying that they do not want to create a wrong impression as they are held at higher standards. The study was published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.
