Health News: Men above 40 are more likely to undergo prostrate cancer screening test

AUGUST 22. WASHINGTON - According to recent findings, experts have noticed some important statistics regarding prostrate cancer in men.

The findings reveal that one in every five men in their late 40s had undergone a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test last year and the number was more in young black men than in young white men.

The survey was conducted on 58,511 US men all aged above 40 and showed that routine prostate cancer screening using PSA was more used by younger Hispanic men than their white counterparts.

The chances of the PSA test in men also varied on different factors like obesity, household income and education levels. But still, this analysis was not taken into consideration by many medical organizations, who feel that there is lack of evidence in recommending prostate cancer screening using PSA for most men.

The American Cancer Society has recommended each and every man above 40, either black or white, to undergo an annual testing to check presence of prostate cancer.

Experts are carrying out research to investigate more on this subject, so that they can understand the impact of new risk-stratification strategies focusing on the increasing use of health-care resources.
