Health News : Migraine – a severe headache

Migraine is an excruciating head ache which is often accompanied with vomiting and stomach irritability. Migraines can be headaches which are preceded by the person seeing flashing lights and an aura or one without these symptoms. Both these migraines come on with the person feeling extreme hunger and cravings for certain foods. A migraine can last up to 3 days and the person should lie down in a dark quiet room and sleep until the throbbing stops and the pain lessens. Bright lights and noise only worsen the symptoms and increases the throbbing. Migraine headaches are usually on one side of the head and the person may feel that it is sinusitis.

Migraines can be brought on by many factors such as not eating in time, dehydration, stress, being over tired and also certain foods can trigger a migraine like alcohol, tea and coffee, chocolate or cheese. A migraine shows changes in blood vessel sizes and there is also a change in the normal levels of neurotransmitters which are chemical substances in the brain. The throbbing is caused by the blood vessels getting dilated.

Unfortunately there is no cure for migraines, but those who suffer with it should try and identify what causes these migraines and act accordingly.
