Health News: Obesity and asthma may have a common link

AUGUST 31. OTAGO – If a team of researchers are to be believed, then there is a common link between two of the most common diseases of our times.

The team from University of Otago conducted a research to find whether people having obesity could have increased chances of being affected by asthma or not.

It was believed that the systemic inflammation, which is found in obese inflammation could lead to people having asthma. However, the study by the team failed to comply with this hypothesis.

The study was conducted on some women, who had cases of obesity and asthma among them. The results that came out after the study, however did not prove the widespread belief of doctors that obesity in a person could lead them to acquiring asthma.

The researchers has stressed that though the study did not reveal much as to whether indeed there exists any common link between obesity and asthma, there is a common link between the two. According to them, it is often found that treating obesity in people with asthma often tends to be difficult.

Individuals having obesity and asthma have been found to respond falteringly to treatments and appear to have serious breathing problems. The study has resulted in the stress to carry on further research to find the exact cause that links the two diseases.
