Health News: Parents can shape up their toddler’s eating habits

AUGUST 20. WASHINGTON - Parents have a pivotal role to play in determining their kids eating habits, reveals researchers. Parents should include more of fresh fruits and veggies in a child’s diet and make it a preference.

Researchers suggest that fruits should be served as snacks and veggies for dinner,since they are the best and the most healthy food for a growing child. This practice will help the child in the long run and help them to maintain a good health.

Researchers in St.Louis Washington University claim that early home involvement comprising of parent’s learning sessions can enable an environment ,wherein children can adapt to fruits and vegetable diets, leaving the junk food behind.

Debra Haire-Joshu, Ph.D. and a professor at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work said that everyone knows that the parents are the one having tremendous influence on the amount of vegetables and
fruits in the diet of their children.

They continued saying that only if parents are in a habit of eating more vegetables and fruits, children will have them.

Haire Joshu said that overweight toddlers are the ones, who have been mostly exposed to sweet and salty foods.

According to Joshu, keeping a child from growing overweight, their parents require exposing them to a varieties of healthy food and offering them at specified intervals.
