Health News: Research reveals protein to be the key behind brain rewiring

In one of the latest developments in medical sciences, scientists have marched one step further toward better treatments for brain injuries and mental illness when they claimed to gain insight into the process of how a brain rewires itself after learning new things.

According to the reports of researchers, it is a protein which actually suggests the brain to start rewiring whenever new information starts to come in. This is the reason, which makes the protein to be a great clinical tool in case of humans.

Takao Hensch, who is a professor of neurology at the Children’s Hospital Boston, says that the brain’s ability to adapt accordingly as new information enters. It gives the possible explanation to a common query in our minds of why the brains of young children can adapt the most.

He also explained that how the neurons reconnect from one cell to a totally different one making the phenomenon of such dramatic rewiring in the brain happening predominantly in early development of the brain in humans. This even helps a child to learn a language much easier and with lesser time than adults.

Hensch and his colleagues carried out a study on a protein named Otx 2 in mice and after using a test, which involved the visual system. They discovered that the protein signals the brain about the information to be received from the eyes.
