AUGUST 31. BALTIMORE – The most popular and traditional way of treating stroke victims is using physiotherapy.
Stroke victims are often troubled by a walking disability, which is caused due to the harmful effect of a stroke on the brain.
A team of researchers from the Johns Hopkins University have found out that people, who were affected by a stroke, have been found to improve in their walking by doing exercise on the treadmill.
The team of researchers found that the health damages, which are caused due to a stroke, can be repaired through exercise. The treatments done by physiotherapy are not liked by most stroke victims. After some time, they discontinue the treatment due to lack of interest.
The research was carried out on some stroke victims some of whom were told to do exercise on the treadmill, while others were told to follow physiotherapy sessions. After some weeks, the improvement in the conditions of both the group of stroke victims were monitored. It was found that the people, who did exercise on the treadmill, had improved on their walking capability considerably and also had good cardiovascular fitness.
The study has brought out the fact that an exercise on a treadmill improves walking ability and cardiovascular fitness for stroke victims and would enable them to lead normal lives in due time.
