Health News: Study says even medicines can pave way for diseases

By admin | Aug 23, 2008

AUGUST 23. LONDON - People generally use medicines to relieve themselves from several diseases, but when medicines become the cause for other diseases there is very little one can do.

Researches in a UK hospital have recently found out that several drugs, which are used to treat high blood pressure can expose people to diabetes.

There are many people, who use drugs like inderal, metaprolol and atenolol to tackle high blood pressure. These drugs are found to increase the levels of sugar in the blood and thus expose people to diabetes.

Thus, it is very risky for those who are already affected with the disease, as the drug also make it difficult to identify the symptoms of diabetes.

A study was carried out by researchers at the National Heart and Lung Institute based in London. People with high blood pressure were assigned different beta blocker drugs in a random manner. The results, which came out, showed that there was a high rate of such patients being affected with diabetes.

So, it is suggested that the doctors should be careful while suggesting drugs to patients for treating high blood pressure. They should see to it that the drugs should not expose their patients to any other disease.
