AUGUST 11. WASHINGTON - A recent study undertaken by University of Montreal’s team of researchers concludes that it is possible to fight back Hepatitis C, if the treatment is given in the very first month of its diagnosis. Treatment in the initial stages helps in developing the immune system to fight back the infection.
The research was undertaken under the guidance of Dr. Julie Bruneau and Dr. Naglaa Shoukry. Both are affiliated to the University of Montreal and Research Centre of the Universite de Montreal Hospital Centre.
The main cause of the transmission of this disease is transfusion of the infected blood. Till date, the only antiviral drug available is pegylated interferon alpha. The patients, who fail to diagnose the disease in time, develop fatal diseases like cirrhosis and cancer of liver.
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) can be eliminated rapidly as the rapid poly-functional is initiated, if the patient is given early treatment.
The treatment helps in the production of several antiviral mediators, which aids in reinstating the immune system of the patient body. It has been recorded that the rate of success is around 90%, which is quite high to prove its authenticity.
