Our food intake is the main source of deciding our health. If we eat right then we benefit and if we indulge in the wrong foods then we suffer with disorders like hypertension, diabetes and other problems. It is better to take care of our eating habits from an early age and ensure that our adulthood and later years will be spent in good health. Eating right in the beginning is a bonus which we benefit with in later years.
Our intake of nutrients should be balanced and the foods which we eat should provide us with the proper nourishment we need like enough calcium, proteins and vitamins and minerals. We also need carbohydrates to produce the energy, but what we can cut down on are fats and sugars. We should also make sure that the calories we consume and the activities and form of exercise should be balanced so that we do not gain weight with the extra calories that have been eaten.
Select varied fruits and vegetables and cereals to give your body all the nourishment which it requires to function smoothly and not break down later. Vegetables which contain antioxidants and vitamins are those which are leafy dark green ones and those that are orange and deep yellow in color; whole grains like barley, corn, wheat, oats and red rice are beneficial; dry beans which are beneficial are lentils, soy beans, navy beans and red beans; citrus fruits, kiwi fruit, papaya, guavas and berries are healthy fruits; proteins from fish and poultry are better than red meats and whole grain and multi grain bread and cereals are healthier and have more fiber content.
