What you eat controls the way you feel and your general health. A high lipid profile will make you susceptible to cardio vascular diseases and there is danger of a stroke or heart attack. So change your eating habits and lower your cholesterol to remain in good health.
Starting the day with a bowl of oatmeal is a good way to lower your cholesterol levels. This is because the soluble fiber in oatmeal brings down the low density lipoprotein which is bad cholesterol. Soluble fiber
is also found in prunes, barley, pears, apples and kidney beans. Add a chopped banana to your oatmeal and increase the fiber level in the first meal of the day.
Other sources of lowering the blood cholesterol are walnuts which have fatty acids, which are polyunsaturated. This makes the blood vessels elastic and healthy. Nuts lower the cholesterol but are high in calories so a limited intake is recommended and it is better to give up certain other foods like butter and cheese and replace them with walnuts and almonds instead to balance the fat intake.
Omega-3 fatty acids found in certain kinds of fish are beneficial to the heart and help in maintaining the blood pressure and also in avoiding blood clots which are a major killer. This brings down the cholesterol levels in the blood too. Ground flax seed will also give you the omega-3 fatty acids which you require.
The highest amount of omega-3 fatty acids are found in sardines, mackerel, trout and tuna fish. Another important ingredient which you can add to your daily diet is olive oil which is rich in anti oxidants
and which can bring down your blood cholesterol levels. The extra virgin kind of olive oil is best while the light olive oil which is highly processed should be avoided.
