Health Tip: Why do I frequently have headaches?

By Roshni | Jul 22, 2008

Headaches happen with no rhyme or reason at times. If it has been a long day, if you have been hungry for too long, prolonged exposure to the sun and too much of noise or loud music can easily pass off as one of the reasons for causing that splitting headache.

Besides these, headaches sometimes also occur as a symptom of another disorder or ailment. Migraine is one of those ailments which are characterised by headaches. This type of headache is called cluster headache as it often occurs unilaterally with the bouts lasting anywhere between fifteen minutes to three hours.

The pain is often described by patients with various synonyms. One common description is the feeling of spikes emanating from the forehead.

The exact cause for headaches has not yet been discovered. Treatment of most of the commonly recurring headaches can be done with aspirin and normal painkillers. A good amount of sleep will also reduce the frequency of headaches.

However, if the pain is recurring too frequently and does not respond to treatment with pills, don’t take a chance. A visit to the doctor followed by a thorough check up of the brain is recommended to rule out other major illnesses like brain tumor.
