Food poisoning is one of the most common illnesses, which you can suffer from during your lifetime. Though it is harmless when treated right, it can create havoc with your health. Food poisoning usually occurs when you consume improperly cooked food or meat and mushrooms that have not been washed or stored properly before consumption.
Food poisoning is mainly caused by bacteria. Meat is the favorite haunt of bacteria. That is the reason why meat is generally frozen as such a low temperature prevents the growth of bacteria. Mushrooms and prawns too are great places for the bacteria to grow on. Avoid eating mushrooms and prawns in restaurants. When preparing them at home, make sure that they are washed properly in salt water at least three times before cooking. Salt will kill all the bacteria if any that are present on them.
Food poisoning will generally show symptoms of indigestion such as loose motion and vomiting. In severe cases, fever may be prevalent too. A three day course of antibiotics is usually enough to cure food poisoning if diagnosed early. Taking the necessary precautions such as eating in hygienic places and keeping the kitchen and other food storage places clean will to a large extent prevent a case of food poisoning.
