The head has four main sinus cavities: frontal, ethmoid, sphenoid and maxillary. The maxillary sinus cavities are located on either side of the nose just below the eyes. The maxillary disease causes the maxillary sinus cavity to become swollen. This swelling may be caused due to allergy or infection.
The main symptoms associated with maxillary sinus are considerable headache and toothache. In some people, there are also reports of jaw pain. The other symptoms common with such diseases are nasal congestion and facial pain. Affected people also complain of a pain in the face, when they bend over to do anything. The jaw pain in the maxillary disease is accompanied by headache and fever. The upper jaw is the one that hurts when a person is affected by maxillary sinus.
Whenever a jaw pain is felt, you should report it to your dentist at the earliest to know whether it is due to maxillary sinus or not. If the dentist suggests it is maxillary sinus, you should consult your general physician immediately. At the mild stage, proper medications and treatments will improve the condition. However, if the condition worsens, there may even be the need to go for a surgery.
