You are not pregnant as yet. This may sound strange but the second week is the best time for sexual intercourse if you are expecting to conceive a baby. At the end of the week, you will become pregnant if everything goes well. During this week, your ovary will produce egg that will reach the fallopian tube. This ovulation process ensures that you have an egg that is ready to be fertilized. Sometimes, the ovary may produce more than one egg. At the same time, the uterus will develop blood rich lining for protecting the expected fertilized egg. Your body will also generate follicle stimulating hormone.
As a result of intercourse without protection, millions of sperms from your partner’s ejaculation will swim towards the egg and one in the million will succeed to fertilize the egg. If the fertilization process succeeds, you can be called as a pregnant woman though no symptoms will be visible for you. The gender of your baby will be determined at this stage itself. If the sperm that fertilizes the egg has x chromosome, you will have a girl or else if the chromosome of sperm is Y, you will have a boy. If you have more than one eggs that are fertilized you may have twins or even more.
