Fertilization takes place in the fallopian tube and by the third week, the fertilized egg will move to the uterus. After around 30 hours of fertilization, the fertilized egg will start dividing. This cell division is essential for the development of embryo. The initial stages of cell division result in the formation of morula. This morula reaches the uterus and it is accepted by the uterus,. The morula will be hollow and it will be filled with fluid forming blastocyst.
After blastocyst reaches uterus, it starts getting attached to the uterus lining, endometrium. This process is called implantation. This connection between the blastocyst and uterus later forms the placenta that nourishes the baby inside.
During this week, your baby starts developing 3 layers – ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm. These layers will then develop into various organs for your baby. During this week, you have to take food that is rich in proteins, calcium and folic acid. Folic acid and protein is important as they help in cell division and forms the basis of brain and spinal chord.
Even after this stage, you will not get any symptoms of pregnancy and you will not be aware that you are pregnant, as you won’t miss your period now.
