A Question: How many bones has the human Leg??

Pregnant women keep away from nuts

Children born to mothers who eat more nuts or nut products are liable to develop asthma by 50 per cent, says Dutch researchers.

Pointing out that moderate amounts did not seem to have any effect on the newborn, the researchers say that it is early to say whether pregnant women should give up nuts as they contain nutrients and fats that is much needed for the development of foetus.

The study was published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Claiming to be the first to bring out such a study, the Dutch researchers have said that children whose mothers ate as little as one peanut butter sandwich a day had a higher risk of asthma.

The peanut allergens may be crossing the placenta and sensitising the foetus, making a child more prone to Asthma, the study says.

According to the World Health Organisation, it is estimated that as many as 30 per cent of children are prone to Asthma. Scientists are yet to find out why some children develop asthma. Some believe that it is caused by allergies that trigger the disease.

Though Nuts and seafood are known to contain allergens that stimulate asthma, the Dutch researchers have found only a link between nuts and asthma.
