Body piercing can be such a life-changing event for those geeks, however, piercing can be really painful and if left untreated result in painful wounds.

These can be taken great care for at home itself by following some handy tips.
- If there is any bleeding due to body piercing, apply ice taken in a cloth or tissue to prevent swelling as well bleeding. Ensure that the ice is not directly placed on the wounded area. Take a cloth and wrap it with a ice cube and then apply on the affected area.
- To prevent infection, ensure that you wash the area with lukewarm water and an anti-bacterial soap.
- Avoid any kind of tight clothing over the infected area; it might irritate the piercing site.
- Again remove the jewellery, if the piercing site is getting red, apply a moist, warm pack of cloth instead and clean the jewelry with alcohol or hot soapy water.
- If one has a tongue or lip piercing should be using mouthwash that has bactericidal action. For instance use Listerine 3-4 times a day for quick healing. Avoid tobacco as well as consuming alcohol. Also refrain from any kind of spicy food as long as the pierced area is not thoroughly healed.
Again, the healing of the piercing site depends on the condition of the wound. In some cases it might take 4 to 5 weeks or sometimes even longer to heal completely.
